Ceramic Coating the Singer DLS Turbo

After working with Singer Vehicle Design for the last year, we heard whispers of a new top-secret vehicle, little did we know we would be tasked with the process of prepping, detailing and Ceramic Coating the Singer DLS Turbos for their grand unveiling at Goodwood Festival Of Speed.

Our goal was to ensure that the cars remain in pristine condition throughout their upcoming global tour, while also being effortless to maintain. To protect such a one-of-a-kind vehicle, Ceramic Coatings were the obvious choice.

Why Ceramic Coatings?

Ceramic coating is the epitome of advanced automotive protection, and it’s the perfect companion for a masterpiece like the Singer DLS Turbo. Its ability to safeguard the car’s paintwork and enhance its brilliance ensures that this automotive legend continues to captivate admirers for years to come. By applying our ceramic coating on a fresh build,  Singer has demonstrated a commitment to preserving the artistry, craftsmanship, and engineering excellence that have made this vehicle an icon in the automotive world.

Ceramic coating is a liquid polymer applied to the exterior surfaces of a vehicle. It chemically bonds with the factory paint, creating a protective and hydrophobic layer that provides several key benefits. Unlike traditional waxes or sealants, ceramic coatings offer long-lasting protection, often lasting for years, and they create a hard, glossy surface that becomes the top layer, repelling water, dirt, road grime, and other contaminants. This results in easier cleaning and maintenance, making it the perfect solution for a vehicle as remarkable as the Singer DLS Turbo.

The Benefits of Ceramic Coating for the Singer DLS Turbo:

  1. Unparalleled Protection: The Singer DLS Turbo is a masterpiece, and its paintwork deserves the utmost protection. Ceramic coatings provide an incredibly durable shield against environmental contaminants, UV rays, bird droppings, tree sap, and more. This protection helps maintain the car’s pristine appearance and preserves its value over time.
  2. Enhanced Aesthetics: The Singer DLS Turbo’s meticulously crafted paintwork and unique lines deserve to be showcased in all their glory. Ceramic coatings enhance the paint’s depth and clarity, creating a mirror-like shine that accentuates every curve and surface of the vehicle.
  3. Hydrophobic Properties: One of the most remarkable features of ceramic coatings is their hydrophobic nature. Water and liquids bead up and roll off the surface, taking dirt and grime with them. This characteristic makes washing and drying the Singer DLS Turbo a breeze, reducing the risk of wash-induced swirl marks.
  4. Easy Maintenance: Ceramic-coated surfaces are much easier to clean and maintain. The coating acts as a sacrificial layer, meaning it takes the brunt of environmental damage, leaving the underlying paint untouched. Regular maintenance routines become more efficient and less time-consuming.
  5. Long-Lasting Performance: A high-quality ceramic coating can last for several years with proper care. Unlike traditional wax, which requires frequent reapplication, ceramic coatings offer enduring protection, allowing you to enjoy the brilliance of your Singer DLS Turbo for an extended period.

Ceramic Coating Process for the Singer DLS Turbo:

Ceramic Coating has revolutionised the world of automotive detailing. When it comes to preserving and enhancing the timeless beauty of a Singer DLS Turbo, it becomes a match made in automotive heaven. In this post, we will delve into the world of ceramic coating and explore why it is the ideal choice for protecting and elevating the appearance of the awe-inspiring Singer DLS Turbo.

The process of ceramic coating a Singer DLS Turbo involves several key steps:

  1. Paint Correction: For the ultimate finish, a paint correction step can be performed to eliminate imperfections and enhance the paint’s appearance. A Ceramic Coating will help to keep the paint in it’s current state, whilst increasing gloss levels so paint correction is essential for a car of this status.
  2. Surface Preparation: Prepping the surface ensures the ceramic coating bonds effectively with the paintwork. Removing things like polish residue to ensure it won’t contaminate the ceramic coating application.
  3. Application: The ceramic coating is applied in a controlled environment, layer by layer, to ensure even coverage and maximum durability.
  4. Curing: The coating requires time to cure and bond with the paint, achieving its full protective potential.

Each one of the wheels on the DLS has been made & finished to the highest level by hand, it’s our job to ensure that they are presented to the world without any imperfections and protected for easy maintenance for years to come. Each wheel was cleaned with our Panel Prep Surface Cleanser to ensure the removal of grease and oils, we then polished the bare metal sections by hand with our Lustre Metal Polish and one of our Cotton Applicators to remove any fine scratches, repeating until we were 100% happy with the finish. The surface was prepped again with Panel Prep to receive our Platinum Wheels Ceramic Coating. Originally formulated for bare metal finishes, it helps prevent staining, oxidisation and scratches.

As this car is being driven (and most likely in English summer weather) all the exterior glass was treated with our Platinum Glass Ceramic Coating, ensuring the best visibility possible after 25mph, and smear-free cleaning with eased bug removal.

When it came to the car’s paint, we wanted to make sure that the hard work put in by the paint team was complemented by our detailing. Our aim was to make the paint shine, bring out the colour, enhance the gloss, and make the metallic flake pop. We began by cleaning the entire vehicle thoroughly to establish a good base to work from. We checked each panel and assessed what needed to be done. We decided to use our PRIMA Polishing Compound and Hand Polishing Pads as the paint only needed a little enhancement and not defect removal. After polishing, we wiped down each panel with Panel Prep to inspect before Ceramic Coating.

Due to tight deadlines, we used our newest unreleased product, the Professional Only Ceramic Coating, which has been formulated to set harder and quicker. This ensured that the car could be returned to the customer or in this case, shipped out to the location without the need to wait for the Coating to fully harden.

When dealing with interior finishes, it’s essential to keep in mind that light-coloured leather and suede are prone to dye transfer. To protect against this, we’ve applied Repel Fabric Protectant to all of the suede and Alcantara finishes. This is an exterior grade fabric protectant which repels liquids and helps prevent stains.

For the leather, we’ve used Finire Leather Sealant, which is essential for preventing dye transfer from clothing. This is particularly important since prospective customers will be sitting in the car at events.

The photos here show the finished product rather than the process and I’m sure that you’ll agree it looks incredible. Everything down to the tyres have been protected, ensuring Singer lives up its ethos of ‘Everything is Important’. It shows true dedication to the car and protecting the countless hours of work which has gone into creating such a vehicle.

This is also a testament to the quality of products we provide, products that are dependable, durable and efficient. It shows that they can be used on anything from a Singer DLS to your pride and joy.
